Erasmus by Train and the FORTHEM Alliance are awarding your sustainable Erasmus Travel!

Do you study at a Universitiy that is part of the FORTHEM-Alliance or have completed your Erasmus+ at one and have travelled to or from your Erasmus+ in a sustainable way? Show us your journey and win this years Green Travel Award!

We award the best three submissions with 400€ each!

All about the Award

1.Who can participate?

The Green Travel Award is open to students who completed an Erasmus+ mobility at or from FORTHEM partner universities.

This means:

Incoming students who completed their Erasmus+ exchange at a FORTHEM university.

Outgoing students from a FORTHEM university who completed their Erasmus+ exchange at any other university.

2.What is considered Green Travel?

For this award, Green Travel means that the majority of your journey was completed using low-emission modes of transport.

Examples include:

  • 🚆 Train
  • 🚌 Bus
  • 🚲 Bicycle
  • 🚶 Walking
  • 🚗 Carpooling (shared rides)

Travel by ferry may be considered where it forms a necessary part of an otherwise sustainable journey.

3.What can I submit?

There are no limits to your creativity.

Possible formats include:

  • Short videos
  • Reels
  • Photo stories
  • Blogs
  • Travel diaries
  • Digital scrapbooks
  • Illustrations
  • Social media posts
  • Any other creative format

While all formats are welcome, we particularly appreciate submissions that can easily be shared on social media to inspire future Erasmus students.

4.How will submissions be evaluated?

A jury will evaluate all submissions based on:

  • Creativity: How original and engaging is your submission?
  • Sustainability: How environmentally friendly was your journey?
  • Length of the sustainable journey: How far did you go for your sustainable Erasmus+ travels?

Three submissions will receive the Green Travel Award and €400 each.

5.Everything figured out? Here’s how and when to submit!

Application deadline: 23 August 2026

Award Ceremony: 31 August 2026

What’s to submit:

  • Your creative contribution
  • Proof of your Erasmus+ mobility (e.g. Certificate of Attendance, Confirmation of Stay or another official document)
  • Your consent to the use of your submitted material for non-commercial communication purposes

FAQ:

What languages can I submit in?

Submissions in English are preferred to ensure accessibility across the FORTHEM Alliance.

When do I get my prize if I win?

After the award ceremony the winners can tell us their banking information. We try to get the prizes out as fast as possible. However for the bureaucratic process we ask you to respect that it can take a few weeks until the money arrives in your bank account. 

What if I can’t attend the award ceremony?

We wish for everyone to attend the ceremony. However in case it is impossible for you to attend, you will not lose your chance to win and will be informed via e-mail.
